What Is a Car Lease Penalty Fee

Car lease penalty fees refers to a variety of penalties charged during or after a lease. Some examples of car lease penalties include:

  • Excess miles  – also included on the car lease agreement as a per mile excess charge
  • Excess damage to the car
  • Disposition fee – the fee charged to return the car at the end of the lease. Usually the disposition fee is only waived if you get into the same manufacturer such as turning in your leased Honda and leasing another new Honda.

Many of these penalties are relatively self imposed and these fees can be avoided.
